In just a few weeks, Dr. Benji Kelley’s book, “Preaching to Connect Truth to Life” will be releasing. The forward from the book is written by Pastor Kevin Myers – senior pastor of 12Stone and gives a taste of what is to come.
When the Beeson Pastor Program of Asbury Theological Seminary visited 12Stone in 2001 for a leadership conversation, I found a kindred kingdom spirit in Benji Kelley. He possessed a soul fire for Jesus that burned for spiritually unresolved people. From that day forward our hearts were knit. As Benji spoke of God’s call to plant a church in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, we traded “what if’s” that seemed ignited by God’s Spirit. And that is the story of newhope church.
Benji’s love for spiritually lost people is rivaled only by his love for the people he pastors. This set the stage for an amazing core group that would help launch a church of over six hundred on their grand opening Sunday in 2002.
Up close, I have been able to see the workings of a spiritual leader who navigates audacious faith and effective ministry. Tough leadership calls and calling his people to reach higher, they opened their first campus on thirty-six acres of land in the heart of central North Carolina. Most recently, newhope church launched an aggressive multi-site ministry with six campuses, and the passion to reach people for Jesus multiplied again. If this is what God can do through Benji, Amy Lynn, and the people of newhope in just ten years, then it’s just a platform for what God has in store. Recognized by Outreach Magazine as one of the fastest growing churches in America for the past two years, leading over one thousand people to Christ in 2011, and celebrating their tenth anniversary as they push into five thousand people a weekend is among the reasons other leaders and communicators would want to follow the ministry of Benji Kelley and invest time in this book.
I am so grateful for the early days of pouring into Benji until it birthed a friendship that has led to Harley Davidson rides and kingdom envisioning. I believe you’ll be better equipped for communicating the gospel because Benji gave himself to write Preaching to Connect Truth to Life. I hope you will get all you can from this book.

The denomination just released a “teaser trailer” of sorts for the brand new book written by Bob Black and Keith Drury called “The Story of the Wesleyan Church“.
From its roots in European and American Methodism through the 1968 merger of the Wesleyan Methodist and Pilgrim Holiness Churches to recent historic events, Black and Drury trace the rich tradition and inspiring history of The Wesleyan Church.
The Story of The Wesleyan Church offers a contemporary, reader-friendly history of the growth and development of the church, passing on its heritage to a new generation in a highly accessible format. Each chapter includes several photos with detailed captions that tell the story of the church in condensed form. By reading the photo captions alone, the reader can pick up the flow of The Wesleyan Church history in just one to two hours of reading, and then go back to the full text for a deeper, richer view of the major events and people that have impacted the movement.
The coauthors, one a former Pilgrim Holiness and the other a former Wesleyan Methodist, weave a colorful tapestry, providing balanced coverage of both faith streams that make up The Wesleyan Church today. Readers will gain an authentic understanding of the foundations of the Wesleyan movement—seeing God’s faithfulness in the past and his continued activity through the Church today.
Description:
Even leaders need leading. In the context of this greatly changing world, ministry experts Steve Ogne and Tim Roehl have coined the phrase “transformissional” to define the unique type of inspired coaching they offer to spiritual leaders in need of fresh direction.
“The path that the Lord of the Harvest has designed sometimes takes us beyond our comfort zone and off the map of our experience,” they write. “We’ll help you understand how coaching helps leaders get traction and make progress in personal growth and ministry productivity. We’ll also help you become an effective coach so no matter where you find yourself—from church buildings to coffee shops to places you’ve never gone before—you can come alongside to help others live out their call and make a difference in their world.”
Endorsements:
“There are many gems in this book for those who coach pastors, church planters or missionaries. The strength of this book comes from years of coming alongside missional leaders. I have been on the receiving end of Steve Ogne’s coaching ability and I know from experience how astute he is at drawing out the strength of the one he is coaching.”
-Neil Cole, director of Church Multiplication Associates and author of Organic Church
“Missional life and leadership remain docile concepts until someone is moved to action. Deconstructing failure without a way forward is nothing but hot air. Transformissional coaching is the difference. Author Steve Ogne isn’t only a proven coach to coaches. He’s my coach and has learned the secret of enlarging one’s vision while centering leaders in reality . . . the reality of a world desperate for a new kind of leader and new kind of church.”
-Hugh Halter, coauthor of The Tangible Kingdom and director of Missio
“Some books are written from an author’s knowledge, and others come from the author’s life calling, giftedness, experience and soul. This fits the latter. I’ve watched Tim and Steve live their book, and it is a delight to see how it reads like coaching on paper, about coaching, from two coaches. If you read TransforMissional Coaching in a quiet place, you can almost hear their voices encouraging you. It doesn’t get any more real than this.”
-Brad Smith, president, Bakke Graduate University
